Fine Arts Building

September 9–30, 2022

My Tiny Museo

The Fine Arts Building first opened in December 1926 and was originally constructed for artist studios, artisan workshops, and dealer showrooms. I found it peculiar that the intention of the space was for artists during that time. Perhaps that is why I am fascinated with this building and why I felt a deep connection to it. We stand in art history–tile work and cabinets designed by Pasadena artist Ernest A. Batchelder–muses on the mezzanine level sculpted by Katherine Ingels–ceiling murals by Anthony Heinsbergen–and exterior cast stone reliefs and interior bronze sculptures by Burt W. Johnson.

What an honor to place my works in this Home–Historic Cultural Monument No. 125. Today it has become my tiny Museo. The words "Architecture" and "Sculpture" are engraved on the exterior walls of this building. I am witnessing a renaissance–a revival of the old with new. And perhaps with paper is where it all began and what you see as the main medium of the works in this exhibit. The material of my birth certificate is the same material I use for most of my work. Through this medium called paper, I’m being born everyday in different forms and shapes. I share with you my love affair with paper and how it tells my story. Through this exhibition I celebrate the Art in the Artist.
